Why Every Business Needs Social Media in 2026

A few weeks into my digital marketing course, I had to create a Facebook account and Instagram creator account as part of the coursework. As an MBA graduate managing my family responsibilities while settling into my career, I wasn’t sure how much this would actually help. But it was a course requirement—every student had to create accounts, optimize them, and link them together. So I did it.

I was skeptical about whether it would make any difference. I thought social media was just for teenagers and celebrities, not for serious business. I was completely wrong, and my results proved it.

People look for you on social media first

Here’s what shocked me. Nobody sits at their computer anymore and googles for businesses the way they used to. Instead, they scroll Instagram while having breakfast. They check TikTok before bed. They browse Facebook looking for recommendations from friends. If you’re not there, you literally don’t exist to them.

I learned this the hard way when I created my Facebook and Instagram accounts just to do this course assignment. I’ve posted ten times so far. In my professional dashboard, I’m at 1.5k views. That might sound small compared to huge influencers with millions of views, but for me, someone just starting out, this number means everything. It proves that people are actually paying attention.

Social media builds trust before someone buys from you

When someone finds your business on social media before they visit your website, they get to know you first. They see who you are, how you talk, what you care about, what you believe. That trust is everything.

For me as a freelance digital marketer and someone just starting in this industry, this is everything. I can’t spend thousands on fancy advertising. What I can do is post regularly and let people see the real me. They see that I’m learning. They see that I’m honest about being new to this. And somehow, that makes them more interested, not less.

Social media is direct communication

On social media, I’m building my presence by sharing educational tips and my own learning journey. I post about what I’m discovering in digital marketing—real lessons from my coursework and experience. When people see authentic content like that, they start to trust you. Over time, those followers become interested in your services. That’s the foundation I’m building right now.

It levels the playing field

I’m a mother of three managing family responsibilities while studying digital marketing. I don’t have an existing business or a big budget. But social media is giving me a way to build something from zero. That’s the real power of it—it levels the playing field for people exactly like me.

A big corporation might spend thousands on ads and get mediocre results. I post authentic content for free and build real relationships. Who wins?

The ones winning are the ones showing up

I see this everywhere now. The businesses that treat social media like an afterthought are the ones struggling. The ones that treat it as a core part of their strategy are the ones growing. Not huge growth overnight. But steady growth. Post by post. Relationship by relationship.

This is how real digital marketing service providers in Hounslow and everywhere else build their businesses. Not through fancy tactics. Through showing up and being real.

What I’m building

I’m building my digital marketing business one social media post at a time. I’m not doing anything fancy. I’m just showing up, being honest about where I am in my journey, helping people understand digital marketing, and staying consistent.

Within just a few weeks of consistent posting, I’ve gone from zero to real engagement. 1.5k views might be small in the big picture, but it’s real proof that showing up matters.

If you’re a business owner thinking social media isn’t important, I’m here to tell you: it is. If you’re worried you don’t have time, I get it. But find time. Even ten posts can change things.

That’s what 2026 looks like. Social media isn’t optional anymore. It’s where your customers are. It’s where your business lives.
